Our community poll at goGardenNow.com, ending 18 July, 2012, asked the question: Do you intend to visit a botanical garden this summer?
Two-thirds of respondents said, Yes.
Though you might be tired of it already, the summer is still young. Botanical gardens are wonderful places to rest, meditate, wonder and learn. Make plans to include one or more in your travel plans.
A great thing about botanical gardens is that there are so many. Going to a botanical garden isn't like planning a trip to Washington, DC. There is only one Jefferson Memorial. But almost every major city has a botanical garden, sometimes more. Day-trips are easy, convenient, and inexpensive. If you live nearby, you have opportunities to visit not only in summer, but every season. Seasonal visits will allow you observe the ongoing changes of flower, foliage and design.
Many botanical gardens are associated with All-America Selections, an independent, non-profit organization that tests new varieties then introduces only the best garden performers to the eager public as AAS Winners. When you visit an All-America Selections Display Garden, you get to see plants on trial up-close. Perhaps you will find something wonderful for your own garden.
Be sure to visit a botanical garden this summer.
