Results of Community Poll Ending 16 January, 2011

Our community poll asked the question, Do you make your own garden compost?
  • 62% of respondents said they do make their own garden compost,
  • 38% of respondents do not.
Whether or not you responded to our poll, we'd like to know what ingredients you generally use in your compost. Simply add your comment to this blog posting. Your comment won't show up immediately because, unfortunately, I have to moderate posts to eliminate spam posted by non-gardeners. If more people gardened, the world would be a better place.

We compost all non-protein kitchen scraps which usually has a lot of egg shells (they're cheap). Also some yard waste and ashes from the yard waste burn pile. We haven't started "hot composting yet but a friend of ours has a chicken farm so I'm sure he won't mind parting with a few shovel fulls of manure. Now that we live in a place with much harsher winters this is going to help out a lot I think.
